Fire extinguishers are to be utilized only in the event of a fire. If a fire extinguisher is missing or has expired (is not marked as having been tested within the past twelve months), call Facilities Customer Service at (202) 994-6706.

To operate a fire extinguisher:

• Pull the pin on the top of the unit.
• Free the hose from the side of the extinguisher.
• Stand back about 8 feet from the fire and aim the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
• Hold the extinguisher tightly and squeeze the lever and sweep from side to side to spray foam at the base of the fire.

Never store a fire extinguisher directly near the stove. In the event of fire you may not be able to reach it.
