PLAQUES

Submitting a Plaque Request:

 

Plaques may be requested by completing and submitting both a Chargeable Request Form and a Plaque Request Form via Fax to:

  • Be sure to include complete text, proposed location, Oracle Alias, and any event date associated with the plaque.
  • All plaque requests are subject to review and approval by the Plaque Review Committee, which consists of representatives from the Office of University Events, the Office of Advancement, and the Office of Facilities Planning.
  • Once a plaque request has been approved by the above committee, a proof will be created for the requestor’s review and approval. 
  • The approved proof MUST be signed and dated by the requestor and returned to the above contact prior to the start of the fabrication.

Fabrication Timeline (from date of requestor’s final approved proof)

  • 4 – 6 weeks for etched Stainless Steel/Aluminum/Bronze/Brass Plaques (standard fabrication and installation)
    8 – 10 weeks for cast Bronze and large exterior Plaques
    8 – 10 weeks for Stainless Steel/Aluminum/Bronze/Brass Pin Letters (standard fabrication and installation)
  • Unique plaque projects that require additional materials and/or research, etc., may require a longer lead time for fabrication depending on the complexity of the project.
  • Depending on the size and/or location, some plaques and other memorabilia will require a Public Space permit prior to installation.  This will require additional time for review and approval by the D.C. Department of Transportation (DDOT) as well as a fee to cover the cost of the permit.

Cost:

The total cost of the project will be based on the following factors:

  • Design:
    GW Graphis will create the proof of the design used for fabrication of your plaque. You will be invoiced directly from the GW Graphics department for this service. Currently there are no set rates established for plaque design. Key factors to keep in mind that will affect the cost of this process are the complexity of design requested and the number of proofs required. Please contact Samantha McGovern directly with any additional questions.
  • Fabrication / Installation:
    The cost of the fabrication and installation is based on the overall project scope, plaque size, special material requested and/or expedited delivery requests. A cost proposal will be submitted to the requestor for approval prior to fabrication.

    Fabrication will begin as soon as both the proof and quote are approved. Any changes made therafter will greatly affect the final cost of the project.

Interior Plaques

  • Etched brushed metal w/ black fill - Stainless Steel/Aluminum (Campus Standard)
  • Etched brushed metal w/ black fill - Brass/Bronze (Law School Standard)

Exterior Plaques

  • Cast Bronze w/black or brown leatherette background (Campus Standard)

Interior/Exterior Pin Letters

  • Cut Stainless Steel pin letters (Campus Standard)
  • Cut Bronze pin letters (Law School Standard)

Product Size:

  • Plaque size will be based on the amount of text and on guidelines established by the Office of Advancement for donor opportunities.  Please see the Office of Advancement website www.gwu.edu/~advance/ for additional information.



Memorial Plaques and Wreaths at Professor’s Gate:

 

Requests for Memorial Plaques and Wreaths for Professor’s Gate, located on 21st St. NW between G and H Sts., NW may be requested by completing a Chargeable Request Form and forwarding it via Fax to 202-994-0026.  Suggested lead time for such requests is 24 hours.
